Ship Inspection

Each year there are over 4000 ship movements on the Manchester Ship Canal. These ships carry many different categories of cargo, from all over the world.


It is a requirement of the International Health Regulations 2005 that every port is provided with a supply of pure drinking water.


Manchester Port Health Authority is a Regulator under the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999 and the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016.


Manchester Port Health Authority is continuing to work as normal throughout this period.
